Maximize your clinic marketing

December 14, 2016 | Article | By: Heather Bridge

Every clinician we talk to always wants to know how they can make the most of their marketing efforts. We have a lot of experience helping clinics optimize their operations and marketing is no exception. With that in mind, we’ve pulled together some helpful marketing tips.

Word of mouth

Image showing the quote: The biggest mistake you can make with your marketing efforts is not picking up the phone.Word of mouth is by far your best marketing tool. Study after study shows that people are far more likely to take advice from a friend or family member than almost any other source. Better yet, patients that are referred by word of mouth have a 37% higher retention rate than those who come by other means. It’s easy to leverage word of mouth with these tips:

  • Give outstanding patient care and people will naturally rave about your clinic

  • Keep track of referrals at intake, so you know who your biggest advocates are

  • Encourage happy patients to leave positive reviews online

Optimize your online presence

You don’t need to have an elaborate website as long as you have a social presence. We recommend focusing your efforts on a few impactful social networks instead of spreading yourself thin. Facebook, Yelp, and Google are great places to start. Remember, word of mouth doesn’t have to happen in person. Consider that “70% of consumers read online customer reviews when considering a brand.” and “81% of consumers are influenced by their friends’ social media posts.” Get the most about of social media by:

  • Completely fill out all profile information. Remember, the more details you give; the better your profile will perform. Include your full address, parking options, phone number, hours of operation and any other information the website asks for.

  • If possible, get a custom URL. Facebook makes it easy.

  • Be sure to update your pages regularly with accurate information

  • Engage with your patients! Reply to their questions, reviews, and direct messages

Stay top of mind

This type of communication isn’t sales focused; it’s more of a reminder that you’re there and ready to help the patient out whenever they need you. There are many inexpensive ways to keep your clinic top of mind; here’s a few:

  • Start a monthly e-newsletter. Share relevant and helpful information with patients regularly

  • Mail personalized holiday and birthday cards to your patients.

    • Bonus! Get your staff to sign cards, this further builds on your relationship with patients and gives a more personal feel to your communication

  • If you don't have the budget to mail out cards or are worried about the environment, email is an excellent way to engage with them while keeping costs down

The biggest mistake you can make with your marketing efforts is not picking up the phone when new patients call. Keep in mind that ¼ of patients that call your clinic are new patients, you’re losing out on a lot of word of mouth advertising if you don’t answer the phone. Also, consider that 75% of answered calls are converted so when you don’t pick up the phone you’re losing out on all those potential patients you’ve gathered with your incredible marketing efforts.
